Mo News is a fast-growing social-first digital news brand focused on non-partisan, engaging news content. We are hiring interns to work on all of our editorial platforms including our podcast, newsletter and social media outlets (Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube). We are looking for candidates focused on helping our community understand the most important and interesting news stories impacting their world and engaging with them about their news questions.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting in editorial research and content creation for Mo News social platforms (IG, Tiktok, Youtube)

• Working on video and photo shoots

• Researching and writing scripts for daily podcast, newsletter stories

Qualifications:

• Exceptionally strong oral and written communication skills.

• Background in journalism and/or previous news-related internships

• You are passionate about content and digital platforms

• You have experience creating editorial content for social media

• You have a strong understanding of the Mo News brand

• You are a creative and have a desire to learn new skills

• Ability to set and meet deadlines.

• Strong editing skills and attention to detail.

• Demonstrated familiarity and consumption of daily news, including on social media platforms

• Attention to detail and deadlines

• Experience with research, reporting, fact-checking, and editing

• The ability to be a self-starter and a team player

• Experience in content development and strategy

• Experience in a startup environment

• Experience using data and audience insights to inform pitches

Pay range: $15 - $20 / hour

Mo News is a fast-growing social-first digital news brand focused on non-partisan, engaging news content. We are hiring an Editor to write our daily morning newsletter–launching in spring 2023. Mo News is looking for a candidate focused on helping our community understand the most important and interesting news stories impacting their world.

Ideal Candidates:

• A deep appreciation for good journalism and storytelling

• Ability to identify relevant and buzzy stories that matter most to our audience and help bring original reporting and analysis to daily editions.

• Aims to make news more conversational/understandable to readers looking for a source that values their time, cuts through noise & speaks to them like normal people.

Responsibilities:

• Authoring a daily Mo newsletter (published Monday-Friday AM) that features insights on main stories and aggregates headlines that matter to the audience.

• Verify facts, dates, and statistics

• Monitor Mo News Instagram, podcast to ensure voice and coverage is consistent

• Collaborates with Mo News team on daily story topics

• Brings creative ideas to help grow subscription base and build buzz for newsletter

• Closely monitor key metrics to help inform ongoing newsletter strategy

• Help develop ways to gain new subscribers and re-engage inactive subscribers

Qualifications:

• Experience working in a breaking news environment

• Exceptionally strong oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to set and meet deadlines.

• Strong editing skills and attention to detail.

• 3+ years of direct experience working in a newsroom

• Demonstrated familiarity and consumption of daily and weekly newsletters, as well as knowledge of newsletter trends

• Attention to detail. Excellent grammar and editorial judgment

• Experience with research, reporting, fact-checking, and editing

• The ability to be a self-starter and a team player

• Experience in content development and strategy

• Experience in a startup environment

• Experience using data and audience insights to inform pitches

Pay range: $150 - $200 / edition

Note: Mo News is based in NYC, but position can be done remotely
